A Grief Observed

As a collection of poems lamenting grief, suffering, and shame without any clear resolution, the book of Lamentations is an odd book in the Bible. Even still, it serves as a powerful reminder (especially in its first chapter) of the need to have our grief seen in order to experience comfort. Through this first poem we are invited not only to see the griefs of others, but to share our own, and to encounter the Jesus who bore ours to save us.
